Newly disclosed emails from the Department of Justice (DOJ) reveal that Jeffrey Epstein, the infamous financier, claimed to have been in contact with the creators of Bitcoin regarding the development of a Sharia-compliant cryptocurrency tailored for the Middle Eastern market. In an October 13, 2016 email obtained from the DOJ's recent release of approximately three million files, Epstein communicated with individuals Raafat Alsabbagh and Aziza Alahmadi, proposing a digital currency that would conform to Islamic law. The proposed project aimed to leverage Bitcoin's technology for the creation of a currency analogous to the dollar but designed to meet religious compliance. Epstein's assertions, however, stand unsubstantiated due to the pseudonymous nature of Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. Additionally, historical correspondence dating back to 2013 indicates Epstein's engagement in the nascent stages of cryptocurrency development and his connections with high-profile tech and finance figures. The full extent of Epstein's involvement in early cryptocurrency initiatives remains to be clarified as researchers continue to sift through the extensive trove of documents.
